Claim reward $1000Pakistan's Islamabad - After days of ambiguity, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has proposed Lieutenant General Asim Munir as the country's new army head.
General Munir will take over the 600,000-strong nuclear-armed army on November 29 when incumbent General Qamar Javed Bajwa steps down following a six-year tenure. President Arif Alvi confirmed Munir's nomination on Thursday night.
Through the Mangla Officers Training School (OTS) programme, "Sword of Honour" winner Munir enlisted in the Pakistani military and was awarded the famous Sword of Honour, which is given to the top cadet.
He has led a division that has a commanding position over Pakistan's northern regions, including the disputed territory of Kashmir. He did this while collaborating with Bajwa, who at the time oversaw the Pakistani army's elite X Corps.
